I'M BATMAN

Not really, obviously. I made a Batman pumpkin though and I'm feeling pretty proud of it so in the spirit of Halloween I'm going to post it on da blog. Bare in mind I've only ever carved a pumpkin once before this and it was MANY years ago.

Pumpkin art is a thing I would like to do every year I have decided.

That Bat signal. It completes me.

My flat with our pumpkins. Because we are the coolest.

And all our pumpkins in a row. Artistic.
Hopefully, we win the pumpkin contest.

Happy Halloween!

(Update: We did not win the pumpkin contest)

Google Doodle

This past week I've been creating my final Google doodle. I've managed to put as many effects as I could manage in there, including multiplanes, bevel effects, drop shadows, glow effect, blur effects, texturizing, adding sound, motion and shape tweens as well as a little of actionscript.

Actionscript was probably the most difficult of these 3 weeks and I considered making my doodle interactive but I quite like it as it is and I was worried the computer would crash if added anything else. It was lagging enough as it is. If the swfl file I put here lags or the sound comes before the blur of the train whooshing past this is why. I swear the sound in the correct place in my flash file.

Dress-Up Jess

Hey, so summers over and 3rd year has finally begun.

We're finally learning some flash! Which is good news. This is an update as well as a test to see if we can post interactive stuff online so hopefully this works. It's a thing I did called Dress-Up Jess wherein you can dress my flatmate Jessie.

Have fun!

Misleading Film Posters

It has totally just occurred to me that I forgot to post them character posters we did to support our final film so... imma post them now!
These are the 2 I was in charge of...

There is absolutely no reason why the DuckFather is smoking a pipe and wearing a tie or even has a tattoo. But aren't you intrigued?

Mostly we just did these because we got an extension and it seemed like a fun thing to do with our extra time.

And these are Katy's...

No one cares about Paddy...

This is so perfect. I don't even think it's that misleading to be honest. I think this is actually what he does in his spare time... like the leader of a life drawing mob. And the DuckFather is his rival gang.

That's right, there's backstory...

Hope you like 'em anyhow!

Soon....ish!

Suit Up!

As promised my other half of characters from 'Suits'! Some of the characters are looking a little generic right now but all will be fixed in development. This is just a taster.

I'm thinking of adding in a few of the villains as well. Hardman for sure but these mains for mow.

Until next time!

NEW PROJECT HAZZAH!

The deadline is over. The film is finished and now I can sleep and eat and watch TV. Except I've done that for a week. Now, I'm just bored to my skull. I've been moping around my flat with no set projects to do and its horrible.

So I'm getting back into the swing of things by starting with a project that the art strand have done this year. What they did was take a live action show and turn it into an animated series etc.

As I've become addicted to 'Suits' (I've gone through seasons 1-3 in about a week) I'm psyched enough about it that I doubt I'll loose my interest. Basically, this is just going to be a lot of fun.

I did a couple of quick sketches for a few characters today, and this is what I've got so far.

They're not final or anything, just rough and they'll probably change quite a bit by the time I'm finished with them. But yeah, drawing!

Anyway I'll be working on the other half of the characters tonight/tomorrow so there should be an update withing the next couple of days.

Winning!
Until then.

Digital Painting

See I wasn't fibbing when I said I'd be posting soon.

A few months back I discovered the beauty of digital painting. I'm not going to lie, I was generally a traditionalist, pencil and paper is my element but after investing in a tablet, I enjoyed it so much I had a 2 day binge where the only time I wasn't in Photoshop exploring all the brush tools was when I was sleeping and at Uni doing my work.

So while I haven't got much on the film front, I do have some digital sketches that I thought I'd post.

I haven't tried colour yet, I thought I'd start with the basics but that's what summer is for.

I felt like drawing a mushroom. Don't judge.

That's all I have for today. Watch out for the first set of promo posters for mine and Katy's film that should be on the way soonish.

Until then!

Film Backgrounds

I'm just going to cut to the chase. It's been a long time since I've updated my blog and I'm ashamed. But that also means there's going to be a lot of posts on the way. Today's, as the deadline is looming, is a preview of some of the backgrounds I've done for the film.

There was a massive learning curve that I had to achieve here. I've never really thought myself much of a background designer, I didn't really know how to do them on Photoshop or Illustrator much but I think I got the hang of it pretty quick.

Now, I'm going to be really brave and put up the ugly-awful-socrap-omg-whatinthehell version that I originally did... Be prepared to cover your eyes and scream.

It's so bad I could cry. I nearly did at one point. Every time I peak at it I do a full body shudder. I mean, I hadn't added shadows or anything and the messy bits near the edges had a field guide over but... still so bad! Anyway, now onto the one that I actually like.

We call it, 'Photoshop pretending to be Illustrator'.

And here's a couple more...

Anyway, that's it for today. I'll post some more in the next couple days.

Hope you enjoyed watching me fail

Soon!

Doodles Doodles

And more doodles...

There's not really much I can add regarding the animation front. I don't want to post many animation clips because then I'd be giving it all away. But animating is going well, we're on schedule and it's looking good so far.

I have noticed though that during my shorts breaks from animating during the day and night it's helped me creatively to just draw random things that pop into my head. It's not like this is something I've never done before but it's becoming some what a ritual for me. I think maybe it's due to the length of this project. If I didn't have another outlet I'd explode. Then there's life drawing of course.

More dog drawings because I'm missing my dog a bit. After feeding ducks and watching many duck videos on YouTube though (It was research I swear!) I've decided I want a duck. No seriously. I'm so done with my puppy, she's a nightmare. I'm going to trade her for a duck. If I had a duck I wouldn't miss her at all.

That rat's pretty cute. I still don't want a rat though. I'm determined about this duck. The old lady reminds me of the witch from Spirited Away. I cannot for the life of me pinpoint why. Maybe it's the big head.

That's all I've got for now. I know it's not much but hopefully I don't get too busy over Easter and manage to post bits and bobs.

Until next time!

Showreel

Just a quickie...

While the Easter holidays are still about I thought I'd just post this. A couple months or so ago I decided I needed to incorporate my up to date work into a showreel  :)

Enjoy!

Doodles

It's pretty much what it says in the title. My animation is going well, we're on schedule but there's not too much I can post on that for now, maybe next week though.

For now, during my breaks of animation I do a few random little sketches. This week I've mostly been in a fish mood. So I drew some fish... with attitude.

Oh and there's an elephant too. I don't know why, it started off as a fish and then I thought, actually, this would be better as an elephant. So its an elephant now.

And then here's a page with a few dogs and whatever else on. Mostly my dog, in cartoon form. You can tell by the 'I did something wrong' expression on her face.

Oh and look, fish made a reappearance!

So this is what I do during my breaks of animation.

Until tomorrow!

Model Village

I'm sorry its been a couple weeks, I honestly was so sure I posted my showreel about a week ago but it's sitting in my drafts section so I'll post that tomorrow.

Anyway, this Thursday we went on a little trip to do some life drawing of a model village so I thought I'd post some of my sketches up from there.

A charcoal sketch.

There were even tiny cottage houses.

It started to rain pretty soon after we arrived, and these were some of the quick sketches that got caught in heavy downpour.

The same thing happened as I was quick drawing some ducks (and a random pigeon) by the river after but I quite like the effect it had I suppose. It adds to it.

That's all for this post but I will be posting again today and another tomorrow, as I said earlier.

Hope you liked :)

Later!

Let the animation begin!

Tokyo was amazing thanks for asking... You didn't? Oh. That's awkward...

On a serious note I know its been a couple weeks but there was Tokyo, then my jetlag lasted for like, nearly a week. It was depressing. But mostly we've just been working on our layouts and schedules last week and we've finally started animating. We're hoping to have that done by the Easter holidays, fingers crossed, and then a hell of a lot of spit n' polishing.

So, I've got a few shots done already but they all need a bit of fine tuning. But I'll leave with a little taster of our film for now. I feel it really captures the essence of our piece.

I'll post soon.

Character Model Sheets

I'll start by introducing you to our characters fully.

The Narrator.

He's my man.

There here's our main, Paddy!

(Katy has more at www.katymorari.blogspot.co.uk)

And now for our Mother!

And finally, my favourite, the duck!

We will be putting up our Premise with some promo posters soon so watch out for that.

You can find more Paddy Model sheets and the Life Model Outline and Sheets at Katy's blog

I'm off to Japan in a bit, so I won't be posting for at least a week.

Until then, Sian out!

Character Development

Hey, its been a hectic week getting ready for Tokyo so I haven't been able to post. We've handed in our work now but I thought I'd share the mother development before I post the character model sheets.

Here were a few of our designs for the mother and buggy. We ended up deciding on curvy for the mother.

At first she was very lumpy but we smoothed her out so she was easier to animate. Then we did some colour tests.

These were much too bold so we decided to go for a paler colour but for more on that you'll have to wait until I post the model sheets of the characters. But the buggy final is here.

We did some colour tests and texture tests and decided to go with this. You wouldn't believe the texture was my hob would you? Or is it?

That's it for this post. You'll have to wait for my model sheets to be posted soon.
For Katy's blog to see more development go to www.katymorari.blogspot.co.uk

Ducking Awesome

If you didn't guess, this post is dedicated to the development of my duck character (a.k.a. The Ducktor) that is cast in my Final Major Project. I love him. You have no idea how much. You could think he's pants but it will not dwindle my love for him and his general amazingness.

To begin with actually, he was a seagull. I know, what an insult.

Although I still liked those designs, it made a lot more sense for out bird to be a duck, what with him being in a park and all. So, I played around with a few duck designs.

After making a final character decision I did a rough turn around for him.

He's such a simple little thing.

Then we begin on the expression sheets.

The amount of expression you can get out of this little guy is ridiculous. I haven't had such drawing a character for a long time.

Then, the action sheets.

I've mentioned it already but he's so fun to draw. I probably won't be saying that when I'm animating him flying but I want to savour this moment.

He's a sassy little duck, he is. Anyway, I'll leave off with that. I'll get some final colour model sheets up soon but not before more development of our main character and our mother.

Check out Katy's blog (she finally got one!) at www.katymorari.blogspot.co.uk for development on our life model!
